Ramp to Research Poster Project

What is Ramp to Research?

The Ramp to Research Poster Project is an opportunity for MESA and non-MESA students interested in participating in professional research. Participants also have access to enrichment activities to enhance their overall preparation and confidence to pursue studies in science and engineering and, eventually, a career that applies to their technical education. The goal is to transform “research” work into a poster presentation suitable for exhibition to both non-technical and technical audiences.

Research Project Types:

Secondary Research - Literature Review (Open to All Students – Requires Independent Study 49 Course.)

Utilizes 3-4 peer-reviewed articles to synthesize the understanding of a current research topic.

Primary Research- Active in research with a PI or REU Program (Qualifying Students Only – Requires Independent Study 49 Course or similar sponsored activity such as an REU, Course-based Research Project, etc.)

Under the guidance of a PI, this type of research project is a scientific endeavor to answer a specific research question.

Engineering Design Project - (Best suited to Engineering students – Requires  Independent Study 49 Course or similar sponsored activity such as an REU, Course-based Research Project, and a Project Supply Budget)

This project type applies an engineering design process model to the creation of a device with scientific significance.

Why Should I Participate?

  • Enrich your academic networking with faculty and field professionals

  • Gain incremental learning toward authentic research

  • Build your resume with relevant research experience

  • increase your chances of acceptance to a summer research internship, or research at a 4-year university.
